Love Is In The Air | 2020 Wedding Flower Trends

Love is in the ‘Air’ and 2020 wedding flower trends are cosmically aligned. Those entering nuptials in 2020, will do so under the new dawning of the Age of Aquarius. The keepers of the stars are excited about this significant astrological positioning, a combination they tell us hasn’t happened since the 60’s, an era of love, equality, freedom and freedom to love!

Yes, the planets are ideally aligned for newlyweds in the first year of this new decade. The new planet arrangement moves us into the Air signs, which lend a breezy quality that will influence many things in 2020 and wedding plans are no exception. In fact, Cosmo quotes Carolyne Faulkner, founder of Dynamic Astrology, as saying 2020 is “a particularly fortuitous time to enter into lasting partnerships.”

We’re already finding a more mystical and magical vibe in 2020 wedding flower trends and we’ve had a bit of fun seeing how this is playing out in design decisions.

Floral Selections

The word we are hearing to describe the feel for wedding events this year is “ethereal,” which is defined as, “extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world.” As applied to floral selections, ethereal translates to choices we’re seeing in more softer tones with fewer bold colors. The emphasis is on nature with whites, neutrals, greens and grasses as the dominate materials.

Minimalistic, simplistic and loose arrangements are on trend. The use of dried flowers and wild flowers and wild, long-stem bouquets with flowing ribbons are common requests.

Air signs are also full of idealism, wanting to make the world a better place and sustainability will be a big focus for 2020 weddings. From up-cycled décor to low-waste catering, look for options that allow for reduced environmental impact. Ask your floral consultant about repurposing arrangements from ceremony to reception or stylizing bouquets, wreath centerpieces and arrangements with flowers or plants that can be dried or gifted at the end of the day.

Plants & Greenery

With nature taking center stage in all areas of wedding planning, plants are a popular choice for décor, arrangements and favors. From greenery arches and living walls designed for Insta fame to potted plant installations and planted aisles, houseplants are set to thrive in 2020 wedding décor.

Tall, airy potted grasses, lush giant ferns and symbolic selections can transform a space and the mood among your guests. Consider garlands, simple greenery in clear vases, hanging plants, chairs adorned with simple sprigs of leaves and eucalyptus, laurel or ivy wreaths. Incorporate herbs in green décor for fragrance, simple beauty and an excellent opportunity for useful re-purpose.
